Website Design

Britain Nigeria Educational Trust needed a new website to replace an outdated platform that no longer reflected the scale, activity or importance of the charity's work. The Trust is an active organisation with a long history of supporting education projects in Nigeria. Its website needed to put that work at the forefront, make regular updates easier to manage and give supporters a clearer route to news, projects, membership and donations.

To achieve this, we redesigned the website in WordPress, giving it a cleaner structure, stronger visual focus and a bespoke content management system built around the way the charity works.

From the first visit, the hero image helps visitors understand the organisation's purpose and gives the website a more human, meaningful starting point.

The hero image immediately helps visitors understand the organisation's purpose and gives the website a more human, meaningful starting point.

Putting the charity's work first

The redesign focused on bringing the Trust's work in Nigeria to the front of the website. The homepage hero image played an important role in that decision. Rather than leading with abstract charity messaging, the website opens with a strong image connected directly to the people and communities the Trust supports.

As a result, visitors can quickly understand the organisation's purpose. The image gives the website a more human and meaningful starting point, while also helping the charity's mission feel immediate and real. At the same time, the wider design needed to feel clear, practical and trustworthy. Therefore, we kept the layout straightforward and allowed the charity's work to carry the emotional weight of the site.

Cleaning up the existing identity

Britain Nigeria Educational Trust already had an established logo, so the project did not involve a full rebrand. Instead, we cleaned up the existing logo and prepared it for better use across a digital platform. This approach helped retain the charity's existing recognition while sharpening the identity and making it more suitable for a modern website. The cleaned-up logo now works more effectively in the header, on different screen sizes and alongside strong calls to action such as Donate and Become a Member.

A cleaner logo for a digital landscape.

A clearer website structure

The previous website contained a lot of information, but visitors needed a clearer way to find it. For that reason, we restructured the website around the charity's key audiences and priorities, including who the Trust is, what it does, membership, events, news, contact information and donations.

This navigational redesign gave the site a more logical flow and made important content easier to reach. Because the Trust has many active pages, current projects and news updates, navigation played an especially important role. The site needed to support a large amount of content without overwhelming visitors.

Designed around active news and projects

Alongside the improved structure, the website also needed to support regular updates. Britain Nigeria Educational Trust frequently shares project news, reports from Nigeria and information about its wider activities. The new website therefore needed to make this content much easier to publish and present.

We created clear areas for news, current projects, past projects and galleries, allowing the charity to showcase both ongoing work and completed projects. Project updates can include images, galleries, supporting text and related information, helping visitors understand how the Trust's work develops over time.

BNET needed more than a brochure website. The charity runs as an active, evolving news and media platform, with regular updates, project developments and stories to share. Because of this, the website needed to provide the team with a simple way to publish new content and enough flexibility to keep pace with the charity's ongoing activities.

A website designed to stream news.

A bespoke content management system

To support this ongoing activity, we designed and built a bespoke content management system within WordPress. This gives the charity a simple way to manage news, current projects, galleries and key website content from a single central place.

The system makes it easier for the team to share regular updates, publish project progress from Nigeria and keep supporters informed without needing outside help for every change. In addition, it gives the website room to grow, with a structure that can support new content, campaigns and future charity activity over time.

Rather than forcing the team into a rigid off-the-shelf structure, we created the system around the way the charity works. News updates, project pages and image galleries can now be added and managed clearly, helping the website stay current and giving visitors a better understanding of the Trust's ongoing work.

Galleries that show the impact

As the Trust had many photographs related to its projects and activities, galleries became an important part of the website. The new gallery structure helps the charity share images from schools, projects, events and updates in a way that feels organised and easy to browse.

This feature gives the website more life and helps supporters see the real-world activity behind the charity's work. For a charity website, visual content carries real value. It builds trust, shows progress and helps visitors connect with the people and projects the Trust supports.

Improved navigation with a resourceful footer.

Stronger calls to action

In addition to improving the content structure, the website needed to make key actions more visible. Donate and Become a Member gained prominent positions in the website header, making them easy to find from the moment visitors arrive.

These buttons guide people towards meaningful next steps without making the website feel cluttered or forceful. We also used donation calls to action throughout the site where appropriate, supporting the charity's fundraising aims while keeping the focus on its educational mission.

The outcome

The redesigned Britain Nigeria Educational Trust website gives the charity a clearer, more modern and more manageable online presence.

Overall, it puts the work in Nigeria at the forefront, improves navigation across a large volume of content, and gives the team practical tools for sharing news, projects and galleries. The cleaned-up logo, stronger calls to action and improved content structure all help the website feel more professional and easier to use.

Most importantly, the website now reflects an active charity with an important mission. It gives supporters, members and visitors a clearer understanding of the Trust's work and shows how they can get involved.

Could not have asked for friendlier, more efficient help and advice in developing our Charity’s new website. Nor the ongoing management of it. A privilege to work with Emma.

Have been ‘burnt’ in the past with previous website design developers so it is a huge pleasure to be able to absolutely recommend Emma and her team
