Website Design

Creating a future-ready website for a growing timber industry network

Women in Timber already had a website built on the Video & Web builder platform. It provided the organisation with a useful starting point, but after the success of its inaugural event, the network began to grow rapidly. The website needed to grow with it.

Women in Timber needed a modern WordPress website that would be easy to maintain, simple to expand and strong enough to support the organisation as its community developed. The site needed to promote events, showcase past activity, publish news and provide a clear point of contact for women working across the timber industry.

The project also needed to establish a more confident visual identity online. Women in Timber already had the beginnings of a brand, so this was not a full rebrand. Instead, we refined what was already there and used it to shape a professional house style for the new website.

Refining the existing identity

Women in Timber already had an existing logo, but it needed to work more effectively across digital formats. We remastered the logo, creating cleaner, higher-quality versions for use on the website and in future promotional materials. The brand toolkit included versions suitable for different layouts and background colours, helping the identity feel more consistent and practical.

The colour palette came from the existing logo. We used its soft dusty rose tones as the foundation, then balanced them with deeper mocha, graphite, warm neutral and muted green shades. The result felt grown-up and feminine without becoming decorative or lightweight.

We also changed the typeface direction to give the website a more editorial feel. The serif headings added personality and confidence, while clear sans-serif body text kept the site readable across mobile, tablet and desktop.

Designing around connection

The homepage hero image played an important role in positioning the organisation. Women in Timber is not just an information website. It is a networking group first and foremost, so the homepage needed to show people in the room, sharing ideas, listening, learning and connecting.

Using an event image as the main hero helped visitors immediately understand the organisation's purpose. It made the site feel active, credible, and community-led, rather than simply presenting Women in Timber as a static industry initiative.

The wider design followed the same principle. It needed to feel professional, welcoming, and empowering, while still clearly belonging to the Timber and construction sector.

Building a platform for events and growth

Events sit at the heart of Women in Timber, so the website needed to support seminars, webinars and future gatherings.

We built an events section that allows the organisation to promote upcoming events with clear listings, event details, dates, locations and booking or enquiry routes. The plugin gave Women in Timber a practical way to advertise both in-person seminars and online webinars from a single central platform.

We also created a gallery section to showcase images from Women in Timber events. This feature helped capture the network's atmosphere and gave new visitors a stronger sense of the community they could join.

Giving the team control

The website needed to be easy for the Women in Timber team to manage. We built the site in WordPress with its own content management system, allowing administrators to update news, events, galleries and page content without needing technical support for everyday changes.

The move to WordPress was important because the organisation was growing quickly. The site needed to support that growth, not hold it back. The structure allows new content, new events and future sections to be added as the network develops.

A mobile-first website

The new website was designed with a mobile-first approach. Many visitors would discover Women in Timber through social media, email links or event promotion, so the site needed to work well on smartphones as well as larger screens. Clear typography, simple navigation, strong content sections and readable layouts helped make the website accessible across mobile, tablet and desktop.

The result

The new Women in Timber website gave the organisation a more professional, flexible and future-ready online platform.

It preserved the identity the organisation had already started to build, while refining the logo, colours, typography and overall house style. It also gave the team practical tools to promote events, publish updates, display galleries and grow their community.

By combining brand refinement, WordPress development, event functionality, and a clear mobile-first design, the website became both an information hub and a community gateway for women working across the timber industry.
